Physical Frameworks Featuring Fusion 2-Categories.
Fusion 2-categories describe the symmetries in (2+1)d QFTs. These categories are a categorified analog of fusion 1-categories, which have been impactful for the study of symmetries as well as topological theories in lower dimensions. Fusion 2-categories have the merit of also being applicable across many dimensions of spacetime, with the theory being rigid enough to offer us a better control of the inherent 2-categorical effects that take place beyond the 1-category. I will update the current status in the development of fusion 2-categories. In particular I will speak about their classification and sketch how they can be applied in different physical frameworks.
