Kadanoff Seminar: Information theory in the semiclassical limit. - Jon Sorce, MIT

1:30 pm MCP 201

Information theory in the semiclassical limit.

Black holes in general relativitybehave according to the laws of thermodynamics, which has led to a widespreadbelief — verified in many examples — that in quantum gravity, black holesshould behave like statistical quantum systems with many component pieces. Iwill give a broad overview of recent developments by which some statistical andinformation-theoretic features of black holes can be understood purely at thelevel of GR+QFT, without needing to know everything about the underlying theoryof quantum gravity. Based partially on 2404.16098 and 2501.16437.
