Physics 485    String Theory III

Instructor:  Savdeep Sethi

Primary Text:  String Theory, vol. I  & II  by Polchinski

Location & Time:  KPTC 103, WF 11:30-12:50

This course will serve as an introduction to more recent developments in superstring theory. It will be aimed
at advanced graduate students who have taken the first two quarters of string theory.

Additional Reference Material:

Superstring Theory,
vol. I & II  by Green, Schwarz and Witten
D-branes,  by Clifford Johnson

A list of references on almost any topic in supersymmetric field theory and string
theory can be found here.

Some nice lecture notes by Paul Ginsparg on conformal field theory can be  found

There are nice lecture notes and an online introduction to string theory  available from
Robbert Dijkgraaf's home-page.

A standard reference on supersymmetry whose notation we are following is the text:

Supersymmetry and Supergravity Theory by Wess and Bagger.

For those interested in learning more about the different flavors of orientifold planes in string theory, a
fairly complete discussion down to 7 dimensions can be found in section 3 here.
